Haughton remain unbeaten after bank holiday win at Barningham

Current standings

Darlington and District Cricket League

HAUGHTON remain the only unbeaten team in the A division following bank holiday Monday’s games.

After being asked to bat first at Barningham, they made a formidable 241-8 thanks to substantial contributions from Danny McGuire and Craig Edwards.

In reply, Barningham gave it a good go, but were hampered by the regular loss of wickets, closing on 165 all out with more than ten overs remaining. Adam Bellwood was among the pick of the batsmen with 41.

West Park RA, who also went into the bank holiday undefeated, came unstuck at Aldbrough St John.

Half centuries from Aldbrough openers Jack Stapleton and Matthew Brown were the base for a score of 237-4 from their 40 overs.

Despite a sizeable partnership between opener Chris McCabe and Simon Warne, who remained not out 68, West Park were never really in the hunt and ended on 155-6.

Middleton-in-Teesdale and Cliffe are still hunting for their first league wins of the season.

At Piercebridge, Jon Murray hit 104 out of Barton’s 193. Tom Sowerby, with 3-27 and Will Heathcote (2-26) were the pick of the bowlers for Cliffe.

In reply, Cliffe struggled once again with the bat. Andrew Glover (24) and Sowerby (30) got starts, but the innings fell well short at 124-8.

Will Raw hit an unbeaten 112 for East Cowton against Middleton-in-Teesdale. His knock included eight maximums and eight boundaries in a total of 237-7.

Gary Waller (2-23) and Anth Coatsworth (4-28) were the best of Middleton’s bowlers.

Middleton then stumbled to 122 all out, Jamie Byers top scoring with 35. Jack Bagley took 4-34 from his ten overs.

Middleton St George recorded their first win of the campaign with a seven wicket success against Nunthorpe, who were shot out for just 120.

Raby Castle made it two wins over the bank holiday weekend with victory against Richmondshire IV.

When Richmond’s Ywal Williams and Tom Spensley were together, a big total looked on the cards.

But once Williams was judged LBW off the bowling of Ryan Matthews and Spensley was bowled by Simon Lee, the innings collapsed to 111 all out.

Williams removed Raby openers Matt Dent and Lewis Leng, but 39 not out from Simon Lee and an unbeaten 44 from Andrew West saw Raby home with few alarms.
