Glaxo Rangers crowned Crook and District Football League division two champions

CHAMPIONS: The Glaxo Rangers squad

CONGRATULATIONS to Glaxo Rangers who were crowned second division champions on Saturday after defeating Evenwood Town 2-1 in front of a large crowd at Manor Farm.

It was the visitors who started the better, dominating the first 20 minutes.

However, it was Glaxo who took the lead, Billy Hutchinson setting up Jamie McDougall for the only goal of the half.

Evenwood threw everything at Glaxo and came up with an equaliser through James Brack.

But back came Rangers and it was Kevin Maughan who slotted home in the 75th minute to restore the lead.

Evenwood gave it a good go – forcing keeper Matt Wheeler into a fine save and seeing a goal ruled out for offside – but there was no further score.

Rangers will celebrate the title at a presentation night on May 19, while Evenwood are still well placed to finish runners up.
