Football: Honours even as Gainford and Toft Hill kick off the new season

THE first round of fixtures of the new season threw up a local derby as Toft Hill travelled to Gainford.
Both teams – the dale’s only representatives in the league this time – are playing in the second division, which contains nine teams.
This season’s Sunday morning first division contains just six teams, with Wearhead, West Auckland The Club and Coundon Three Tuns having left the league in the close season.
Gainford and Toft Hill served up a close and entertaining game, which ended 2-2.
Shane Walker and David Vayro were on target for Gainford, with Nigel Beckley and Allan Jones netting for the visitors.

Division 1: Middlestone Moor Mason’s Arms 3, Coundon Miners 4; BA Juniors Pavilion 7, NA Sports Bar 1.
Division 2: Bay Horse Blues 4, BA Sports Bar 2; Leeholme WMC 8, North Bitchburn Red Lion 1; NA Roundhouse 3, Spennymoor Ash Tree 0.
l The semi-final of the 2019-20 DCFA Sunday Cup saw Witton Park win through to the final 4-1 on penalties after the game against Boldon Shack ended 2-2 after 90 minutes.

BOWES FC kick off the new season with an away game at Middlestone Moor in the first division of the Crook and District League on Saturday (September 12).
Glaxo Rangers begin with an away game against Catchgate Community in the Durham Minor Cup preliminary round, while Evenwood entertain Gateshead Redheugh in the cup.
