ALL SMILES: Sri Lankan batting all-rounder Sawan Kankanange has joined Evenwood for the summer TM pic

EVENWOOD Cricket Club have welcomed Sri Lankan batting all-rounder Sawan Kankanange as their overseas pro for this season.

It is the 23-year-old’s second season as a club pro in the UK, having spent last summer with Lindal Moor, in the North Lancashire and Cumbria league. Sawan plays for Lankan CC in the first class set-up in Sri Lanka and has been chosen to represent his country’s U23 emerging players team.

He said his ambition was to break into the Sri Lanka white ball teams at T20 and one day international level.

During his time with Evenwood, he has set his sights on scoring 800 runs and taking 30 wickets with his right arm spin.

He has started well, with 115 against Ushaw Moor on bank holiday Monday, but was bowled for three in Saturday’s defeat.
