LANDS capped their return to the Darlington and District League by winning the C Division knockout cup at Barton last week.

The club, which dropped out of the league for a season, recorded a comfortable ten wicket win against a Middleton Tyas team that never got going.

Tyas batted first and suffered the early loss of opener Matt Hutchinson, bowled by Craig Talbot in his first over.

The Lands skipper then bowled Mike Spink for eight and Tyas were on the back foot as Keiran Brown removed Shaun Paramor as well.

Only Tyas skipper Marcus Burnett offered any resistance with the bat, accumulating 18 as wickets fell around him.

Ryan Matthews proved chief destroyer, taking 4-8 in five overs of accurate slow bowling.

In reply, Jonathan Milroy was in no mood to hang around, hitting the first ball of Dan Hutchinson’s opening over for six.

He survived a difficult caught and bowled chance on his way to 33no, while Brown was content to play second fiddle and remained unbeaten on 18 as Lands cruised home with half their overs to spare.

Accepting the trophy from league president Brian Jones and Barton’s Martin Fairy, after whose father the cup is named, Craig Talbot paid tribute to the efforts of all those who had been involved in bringing cricket back to Lands.

In addition to their cup success, Lands currently lie second in the division and look well placed for promotion going into the second half of the season.
