Club’s season to honour John’s memory

NEW STRIP: Glaxo Squash Club members

Optimism is high at Glaxo Squash Club after winning back-to-back promotions, and they are now competing in Division Two of the Durham and Cleveland Squash League.

The new season started in September and they currently sit second in the league after a positive start to the campaign, earning five wins from their opening seven games.

After tragically losing their captain John Ashworth last May, it has been a time of transition for the club.

Playing member Phil Mobley said: “It was a terrible loss to the club – and to the town. We hope to pay tribute to him this season. John had been a very important member of the side.”

With the season running till May there is a long way to go, but the club is looking prosperous on and off the court. They have received funding for new strips from paint company, Zinsser, and with the majority of the fixtures ahead of them, it is looking like it will be an exciting introduction to Division Two.

The club is still looking for new members to help them achieve yet more success. If you are interested, contact Glaxo Smith Kline Social Club on 01833 692921.
