Awards honour local sports heroes

WELL DONE: The winners at the South-West Durham sports awards presentation evening

TEESDALE was well represented at the annual South-West Durham Sports awards, which were presented last week.

The winners now go on to the county awards, which will be held in the new year.

Award winners were:

Contribution to Physical Activity: Sue Bainbridge.

Sport & Physical Activity achievement of the Year: India Oates.

Coach of the Year: Ben Kelly (Bishop Auckland Table Tennis Club).

Young Coach of The Year: Claudia Barkes.

Primary School Contribution to Sport & Physical Activity: Peases West Primary School.

Volunteer of the Year: Kath Scales (Wear Valley Riding for Disabled Association).

Young Volunteer: Rebecca Horner (Bishop Auckland Netball Club).

Sport Club of the Year: Brandon Boxing Club.

Junior Sports Club of the Year: Deerness Valley FC.

Sports Performance of the Year: John Clifford (Evenwood Road Runners).

Young Sports Performance of the year: Rachel Bennett (Shildon Running & Athletics Club).

Contribution to Sport: John Ashworth (Barnard Castle Cricket Club).
