JUNIOR practice swings into action at Barnard Castle Cricket Club from next week as the club looks to unearth the next generation of young stars.
Tuesday nights, starting May 4, are for U11s and U13s, from 5.15pm to 6.15pm, under the watchful eye of coaches Josh Bousfield and Ian Rutherford.
Wednesday evenings from 5.15pm to 6.15pm, starting May 5, are for girls of all ages.
Sessions will be run by Megan Walker and Libby Merryweather.
Then, on Thursday nights, from May 6, training takes place for U15s and U17s, with first team captain and club coach James Quinn and Ben Usher taking charge.
Again, sessions take place from 5.15pm to 6.15pm.
In a change to previous years, the fun cricket nights will move from Wednesdays to Fridays, starting on May 21.
They are open to five to 11-year-olds from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
In addition to coaching and net sessions, Barney will field U11 and U15 sides in the North Yorkshire Area Cricket Council league. Matches will be played on a Sunday morning.
The U13s will play friendly fixtures on a Tuesday evening.
Coach Josh Bousfield said parents could register their children with the club at next week’s sessions.
“The aim is to focus on technical coaching earlier in the week and for the Friday sessions to be more sociable,” he added.
Meanwhile, Barnard Castle Cricket Club is also taking part in the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) All Stars scheme to introduce children aged five to eight to the sport.
The eight week programme will be held on Monday evenings starting May 17.
