Young bakers cook up a chocolate treat

STAR BAKERS: Kim Clark presents young Holly Black and Laila King with their hamper for winning the baking competition

LOCKDOWN hero cook Kim Clark, who made 10,000 meals for key workers and the vulnerable during the pandemic from her home kitchen, has now delighted a pair of talented young bakers.
Ms Clark, who runs Kim’s Kitchen, in Evenwood, launched an online baking contest in which children were asked to enter a picture of their creations over lockdown. The contest was judged by Mercury editor Trevor Brookes, who picked out Holly Black and Laila King’s creation as a winner.
He said: “It was definitely a wow cake and a chocolate lover’s dream come true.
“Special mention should also go to Katelyn Spry, 5, for her cake that she designed and made with minimal help for her big sister’s birthday. There were so many fantastic cakes and it was so, so hard to pick a winner.”
The young bakers, aged 8 and 13, received a voucher, baking equipment and treats.
