Workshop where pupils turned themselves into the instruments

FINGER CLICKIN GOOD: Old Kent Road's Adele Joel shows Middleton pupils how to click their fingers. Right

CHILDREN from a dale school turned themselves into musical instruments during a visit to Barnard Castle’s arts centre.

The youngsters, from Middleton-in-Teesdale Primary School, took part in a body percussion workshop at The Witham.

It was run by members of the Old Kent Road dance group, who were in town to perform their new tap dance show Oscillate.

The pupils’ session was one of two body percussion workshops held prior to the show.

Children were shown how they could make different sounds using different parts of their hands and body.

This ranged from clicking their fingers and stomping their feet to different ways of clapping and using their chests and cheeks as percussion instruments.

Old Kent Road’s Ryan Campbell-Birch explained: “We are the instruments and our hands are the sticks.”
