VIBRANT landscape images depicting scenes in and around Teesdale have been created using traditional materials and century-old techniques.
The wet felting workshop was organised by Teesdale Felt, a craft business owned and run by Claire Priestley, and held at Enterprise House in Barnard Castle. Using photographs for inspiration, crafters layered merino wool, fibres and embellishments to get the structure and shading right for their woollen canvases. Using warm water and soap they agitated the fibres to “knit” them into place before rolling and squeezing out all of the residual moisture.
Ms Priestley, who runs regular felting workshops around the dale including a monthly evening class at the Scarth Hall, said: “It’s a traditional art form and the felt is very durable. As well as creating intricate artwork it can be used to make hats, handbags and lampshades.”
