WI group celebrates its 70th anniversary

PARTY GIRLS: Whorlton WI celebrates its 70th anniversary with Dorothy and Judith cutting the cake

TWELVE members of Whorlton WI were joined by 21 guests from their Mid-Tees Group along with county chairwoman Judith Alderson and trustee Dorothy Proud to celebrate their 70th birthday.

Secretary Sue Robson welcomed everyone and Jerusalem was sung.

As it was the birthday party business was kept to a minimum. An invitation to attend Denton’s harvest supper and 70th anniversary in October has been received, four members being invited.

Our entertainment for the evening was the Teesdale Folk Group. They performed a medley of Irish tunes, many of which we were encouraged to join in with. Our vote of thanks was given by Anne Thompson.

Supper followed along with the raffle.

The evening concluded with Judith giving the vote of thanks to Whorlton WI from all of the visitors, and wishing us many more years to come. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
