Warm welcome for the return of popular monthly coffee morning

TIME FOR A CUPPA: Organisers Betty Poole, Sarah Fells, Rose Scaife, Jayne Brown and Judith Fletcher prepare for the first of the revived monthly coffee mornings at Staindrop’s Scarth Hall in aid of St Mary’s Church

A POPULAR monthly coffee morning that faded after the covid pandemic has been revived by some of its former customers.

The regular get-together, at Staindrop’s Scarth Hall, for many years featured home-baked cakes and a raffle was organised by members of St Mary’s Church but it was never resumed when restrictions were lifted.

Former customer Judith Fletcher and her neighbours Rose Scaife and Betty Poole missed the event so much that they decided to relaunch it just before Christmas.

They were joined by fellow church members Sarah Fells and Jayne Brown to help put it together.

All cash raised by the sale of coffee, tea, home-made cakes and raffle tickets goes to the church, but is not used for day-to-day running and maintenance.

Ms Brown said: “Money collected goes into a separate fund and will be used when it is decided there is something to do.”

The inaugural event featured home-baked mince pies, scones and biscuits and raffle prizes included wine, fizz and festive candles, among others.
The coffee morning is held every second Friday of the month from 10am to 11.30am.
