AN appeal has been made for someone to fix two full-scale models of Daleks from Dr Who that have adorned the entrance of a Barnard Castle community centre for several years.
The managers of The Hub want to ensure the unusual models, one of which is based at the entrance to the building, are not exterminated by the passage of time.
The TV series-inspired models have been a popular feature of the centre but are now worse for wear.
Rachel Tweddle, manager of The Hub, is asking for any DIY-minded Dr Who enthusiasts to come forward to repair them.
She said: “They were built by Keith ‘Joe’ Jones [who helped to create The Hub] and a team of young people from Deerbolt Prison.
“People have taken to them and they are a real point of attraction for those who come through the door.
“Pictures of them are often posted on Instagram.
“However, the staff team aren’t too passionate about Dr Who and we don’t have a lot of money. We’re appealing for help from anyone who is an enthusiast to give them a bit of TLC.
“They’ve been here for five years and are starting to fall apart. We don’t want to get rid of them but would like someone who could generously offer their time to our charity.”
The Daleks were created so people can get inside and drive them.
However, their batteries have long been flat.
If you can help fix the Daleks, call The Hub on 01833 690150.
