Villagers surprise Ruby on her big day

MANY HAPPY RETURNS: Ruby Johnson

A NONAGENARIAN was overcome with emotion when friends and neighbours organised a socially distanced surprise for her.
Ruby Johnson, the oldest resident in Boldron, turned 90 on Sunday, June 14, and to mark the occasion about 40 friends and neighbours gathered with socially distancing to wish her many happy returns.
The idea to spring a surprise on Mrs Johnson came from her friend and fellow village resident Maureen Seal, who spread the word when out on her daily exercise through the village.
Mrs Johnson, who ran the George and Dragon pub and village post office before retiring, said she had no idea anything had been planned.
She added: “I don’t mind being the oldest in the village if this is what happens.”
As well as singing happy birthday, Mrs Johnson was inundated with gifts and cards.
