Villagers out in force for return of Newsham Carnival

FARM FUN: The antics of Clarkson's farm were recreated by James Willis as Caleb and brother Harry

VILLAGERS and visitors turned out in force to support the first carnival in Newsham in two years.
The fun kicked off on Friday evening with the traditional duck race. The quoits competition, which went well into the night, was won by Mark Thompson, with Laurence James in runner-up position.
Rain clouds loomed on Saturday morning as all manner of characters gathered for the popular fancy dress parade. However, the summer showers didn’t dampen the atmosphere or enthusiasm for the event.
Sports on the village green were hotly contested during the afternoon.
The childre’s sport section was won by Ralph Hoskyns-Abrahall with Dexter Thompson and Freddie Harland as joint runners-up.
In the adult sports, Ralph and Harry Hoskyns-Abrahall took first place in the egg throwing competition with Dan and Freddie Harland in second place.
The welly throwing competition was won by Scott Walker with Patrick as runner up.
