Villagers enjoy week of festival fun

COLOURFUL CHARACTER: Adam Zac

VILLAGERS in Newsham combined jubilee celebrations with their annual carnival, organising a week of events and activities.

The week kicked off with the planting of a tree on the green as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, while scarecrows adorned houses throughout the village.

Darts, pool and quoits competitions were held and, in common with other towns and villages, a beacon was lit.

The ever-popular duck race was staged on Friday after which a barbecue was lit and the fun fair arrived.

On Saturday there were sports, live music and fish and chips and the week concluded on Sunday with the fun dog show, fancy dress and jubilee picnic on the village green.
