Village extends its colourful festive lights

FESTIVE MOOD: Enjoying the Christmas lights switch on at Eggleston were Emily

ONE of the dale’s most colourful festive displays was turned on at Eggleston on Sunday, December 1.

The village green was turned into a technicolour wonderland when Sam Collins turned on the lights at 6.30pm revealing the work that had gone one over the past year to extend the display.

Mr Collins’ grandfather Peter told of how his family had moved to the village just a year before and had seen the display as they drove to their new home for the first time.

He said: “What I saw was magical and what has gone on throughout this year has been magical.”

Chairman of the village’s festive display group David Hutchinson said a lot of work had gone into extending the display to the lower part of the green.

New cabling also ensures that each tree now has its own connection.

This means that if there is a fault with any of the lights, only one tree will be affected.

In previous years a single fault would plunge a large part of the green into darkness.

More than 20 trees on Eggleston village green have been lit up this year.
