Venue change for Christmas Barnard Castle Farmers’ Market after weather warnings

Barnard Castle Auction Mart will provide refuge to monthly farmers’ market this Saturday following weather warnings for high wind at the weekend.

Faced with the very real possibility they would have to cancel this weekend’s market, due to amber alert weather warnings, Barnard Castle Farmers’ Market, called on the town’s auction mart for help and weren’t disappointment with the answer.

“They really came up trumps,” said Anne Bell, chairwoman of the award-winning Barnard Castle Farmers’ Market.

“We were faced with the dilemma of having to cancel the Christmas market due to the wind as we couldn’t be covered by insurance or asking stall holders to trade out of the back of their vans and cars.

“As this is our Christmas market a lot of traders have Christmas orders for lots of customers and we have never had to cancel in the past.

“So, I put a call into the auction mart to ask if they had room to accommodate us and by gum, they came up trumps. They have been so helpful and accommodating to us.”

“We want to be as visible as possible and we will be front of house, but if the weather is really bad, they have made the barns available to us.”
