MEMBERS,volunteers and supporters of an upper dale farming charity are being invited to help mark the organisation’s 25th anniversary.
Upper Teesdale Agricultural Support Services (Utass) is holding a social evening at Middleton Mart on Saturday, August 11, doors open 6pm for a 6.30pm. The highlight will be a hog roast, which will be served from 7.30pm.
Invitations have gone out to many of those who have played their part in the charity’s success in the past quarter of a century, but Diane Spark, project manager, said any friends and members of the organisation would be made welcome.
Anyone who would like to go along, should contact Utass on 01833 641010 or by email info@utass.org by Friday, August 3, at the latest.
Utass was set up to offer support to the upland farming community in Teesdale and Weardale and to help tackle problems faced by those working the fells.
The charity was initially based in Horsemarket, Middleton-in-Teesdale, before moving to its larger based in Chapel Row in 2008.
“We needed to do that due to the fact that the activities and services we deliver were expanding,” said Ms Spark.
She said the social evening at the mart is one of a number of events and activities being held this year to mark the 25th anniversary.
A range of all occasion greetings cards has been produced and a volunteer celebration for those who have helped out in the last 12 months has been held.
Later this year, a reception is being planned in conjunction with the County Durham Community Foundation at Raby Castle, to outline Utass’s work to potential future funders and supporters.
And in September, the charity is expecting an announcement on its latest funding bid to the National Lottery.
Utass will also stage its popular Christmas fair on November 24 at Middleton mart.
Last year, more than 50 stalls took a spot at the popular event.
