Unusual reception honours Barney’s volunteers

HERE IS THE NEWS: Mayor Cllr Sandra Moorhouse with those who made costumes out of the Teesdale Mercury. The winner

MAKING the best use of a copy of The Teesdale Mercury was among the highlights at a reception to thank volunteers who have given up their time to help out at events in Barnard Castle during the past year.

The reception was organised by town mayor Cllr Sandra Moorhouse and the town council.

Those involved in events such as the 1940s weekend, Veg Out in Barney and the town’s Christmas Lights committee were among volunteers present.

Presentations were given on the activities of each group presented and there were quizzes as well as refreshments.

Andrew Nicholson was MC for the evening.

Town councillor Richard Child was judged to have made best use of the Mercury – his table transformed the weekly headlines into a medieval knight’s costume.
