Under starter’s orders to boost village funds

UNDER STARTER'S ORDERS: Runners and walkers prepare to set off from

A NEW monthly get-together to encourage folk into the great outdoors and raise cash for the upkeep of a heart-start machine has been launched at a dale village hall.
The first of the new monthly runs or walks was held at Stainton and Streatlam Village Hall earlier this month.
Village hall committee member Amanda Pettitt explained: “The village is a popular route with walkers, runners and cyclists so we decided to start a monthly social run or walk.
“It is open to anyone, with the route returning to the hall for refreshments afterwards.”
The hall is also open for anyone to pop by and enjoy refreshments – not just those taking part in the walk or run.
Ms Pettitt added: “The proceeds from the sale of the refreshments are going towards maintenance of our defibrillator.
“While it’s a fabulous resource, the cost falls on the community to maintain it which includes power and new pads.
“We also we currently need a new cabinet and bag that stores it, as over the years it has weathered and is damaged. The next social run/walk will be held on Sunday, August 7. Anyone interested can meet at the village hall for a 9.30am start, or find the Stainton and Streatlam Village Hall page on Facebook.
Meanwhile, the village hall committee will once again be hosting the Christine Brass 5k and 1.2K fun run on Sunday, September 4.
