Trio plan a close shave in aid of Bowes Christmas lights

BOWES Social Club is staging the inaugural Great Bowes Shave Off on Saturday, November 24, at 8pm in support of the Bowes Christmas Lights.

Bearded residents Adam Seymour, Dave Lacey and Mark Dyson have selflessly volunteered themselves to be sheared by the hands of the Kurdish barbers, from Barnard Castle, despite fervent clamours from their wives who are desperate for them to keep half their faces hidden.

The event has been sponsored by local builders Fairbairns, but given no-one can predict the horrors that lurk beneath the volunteers’ well groomed beards, it is hoped the good people of Teesdale will donate further sponsorship to help the village inch closer to its ultimate target.

Lynn Todhunter, secretary of the Bowes Lights Committee, has been overwhelmed by the support given throughout the year.

“As a result of various fundraising events we will be able to light up 50 per cent of the village this year, but we are already looking to next year when it is hoped the whole village will be lit up,” she said.

The Bowes Christmas Lights switch-on will take place on December 1, at 6pm.
