TEESDALE’S smallest art gallery is exhibiting work produced by children.
It was a busy weekend in Barningham, which is renowned for its gallery in an old phone box, with Easter events arranged by the village hall committee.
Along with a picnic, children were also invited to take part in an arts competition, which was judged by enthusiast John Hay.
Kit Collyer won the competition with his painting of daffodils. Mr Hay said: “It’s actually a lot better than mine. He captured the essence of Easter by coming away from the traditional eggs and bunnies. I looked at all of them carefully. His was a departure and it is those departures that makes it stand out. He has thought laterally, outside of the box.”
He noted that the group of three daffodils also resembles the crucifixion of Christ.
Mr Hay, who usually displays some of his own work
in the telephone box gallery, said exhibitions had been”a bit fallow” this year but hoped the present one would encourage more children to display their art. For details, call Fiona Killeen on 01833 621389.
