A MORE colourful experience is in store for youngsters as they wait to see a doctor at one Teesdale GP practice.
The Old Forge Surgery, in Middleton-in-Teesdale, is undergoing a facelift, including the painting of a large mural in the children’s corner. Stephanie Connolly, managing partner at the practice, said: “We are totally focused on our patients’ needs and that includes young people.
“We thought that we should provide a space for children that was eye catching and unique.”
Darlington-based illustrator, Liz Million was brought in to bring the idea to life. She said: “I was asked to provide something colourful, something special.”
The result was a 7×2.5m mural based on the theme of healthy eating and incorporating animals such as unicorns, bears, pigs and mice. Ms Million added: “I started with sketches and drawings which I then scaled up using a photocopier and these were then transferred onto the wall.”
The final design has taken Ms Million five days to paint onto the wall.
Mrs Connolly said: ” We owe a very big thank you to the Teesdale Radio Link Appeal Fund for donating £600 to the project. ”
The fund is a local charity set up to provide and maintain communication and other ancillary equipment to the upper Teesdale doctors.
