Tennis club pays tribute to long serving member

POIGNANT: Tennis players pay their respects in Bridgegate

BARNARD Castle Tennis Club paid tribute to one of its longest serving members, Mary Hansen, by creating a guard of honour with their rackets along Bridgegate last Thursday.
Mrs Hansen, who died last month, was well known throughout the dale.
She was an active member of the tennis club for many years and was instrumental in setting up the children’s coaching sessions.
Before making Teesdale her permanent residence Mrs Hansen lived in a number of exotic locations including Borneo, the Solomon Islands, Ghana and New Guinea due to her late husband Noel’s work with the CDC (Centre for Disease Contro).
But during her time abroad she opted to spend her summers in Teesdale.
