Teesdale student picks up Schools’ Physicist of the Year award

SHINING EXAMPLE: Daniel Gaskin with his Physicist of the Year Award

A DALE student’s exceptional talent in physics has been recognised in a special ceremony at Durham University.

Teesdale School sixth form student Daniel Gaskin, 17, was presented with an award for Schools’ Physicist of 2018 from the Ogden Trust, a charitable foundation which promotes the teaching and learning of physics.

The year 12 pupil is studying for three a-levels in maths, advanced mathematics and physics and was one of only 39 students across the North East to be awarded. Daniel said he was thrilled to receive the award and didn’t know he had been nominated.

“Dan is always modest in his achievements,” said Miss Hope, head of physics at Teesdale School. “This is a wonderful opportunity for us to tell him how privileged we feel to teach him. We could not ask for a better role model than Dan.”
