Student’s work impresses at exhibition

FINE ART: Chantal Goulder with her colourful art behind

A BARNARD Castle student’s art work was seen by more than 1,000 people at the opening night of an exhibition at The Northern School of Art’s Middlesbrough campus.

The preview evening launched the annual showcase of displays of work by North East’s only specialist arts school. With a theme of “made by” , the show featured a range of projects and courses.

Chantal Goulder, who has just completed a UAL Foundation Diploma in art and design at the school, is heading off to study at the internationally-renowned Slade School of Fine Art, in London.

The former student went to QE Sixth Form, in Darlington, and lives in Barnard Castle.

She displayed colourful abstract artworks. She said: “It was a good way to get the skills I needed for the creative course I wanted to do.

“I really enjoyed it. I was guided by the course leaders but it gave me the freedom to become my own artist and develop my creative practice.”

The exhibition ended last week.
