PARISHIONERS flocked to St John the Evangelist Church, in Lynesack, earlier this month for a two-day exhibition to celebrate its 175th anniversary.
On display was an enormous number of crafts created by old and young parishioners, including animals made from vegetables to an innovative knitted depiction of Da Vinci’s Last Supper.
Kathryn Walton, treasurer at St John’s the Evangelist, said: “We had a great weekend with lots of people visiting for their own different reasons.
“We have such talent in our parish and great support for the community with both schools – Butterknowle and Woodland – Woodland youth club, Butterknowle Scouts, the mother and toddle group and of course talented individuals.
“People enjoyed the exhibition of talents, looking through the church photo albums to reminisce baptisms, weddings and church events over the years.”
The baptism register was a popular draw with many visiting looking through to find their own registration.
Displays from past church events were put on show along with old parish magazines showing baptisms, weddings and funerals that have taken place at the historic venue.
The celebrations culminated on Sunday, October 9, with a special harvest festival service, which was so well attended there was standing room only at the church, which was built 1848.
