Spice night for festive lights fund in Barnard Castle

CRACKER OF A PARTY: Christmas Lights group members Roger Peat and Jonathan Wallis hoping to put on a 'cracker' of a do to raise funds to light up the town

Barnard Castle Christmas Light group planning another cracker of a curry night to raise funds.
Following the success of last year’s inaugural curry and quiz night fundraiser, the town’s Christmas Lights group have rustled up another.
Tickets for the curry and quiz night at the Bengal Merchant restaurant on Monday February 13 are selling well.
Jonathan Wallis, chairman of the Christmas Lights Group, said: “We already have 30 people booked in which is great and it should be another really good night.”
Chad Choudhury, from the Bengal Merchant, said: “We were really happy the guys wanted to have another curry night and we were delighted to help. It was a great evening last year and we’re looking forward to it this year. We’ll still be open for business on the night, but only for takeaways.”
Although it may just be weeks into the new year, preparations are well in hand for a number of other fundraising events that help fund the town’s festive display.
The popular classic and retro car show returns on Sunday, August 13, and the town’s bonfire night has been booked for Friday, November 3, with tickets being sold through the Witham.
Roger Peat, a member of the volunteer group, said: “We feel like with the festoon lights now in place we need to introduce more colour in and lower down so we’ll be looking at that.”
Mr Wallis added: “We have lots of ideas but it’s cost and safety that we have to look at. We’re interested in looking at light as a show. We’re always keen though to get new volunteers involved and anyone who is interested should get in touch, men and women.”
Tickets cost £25 for the curry and quiz night, which starts at 7pm, are available through www.barneylights.com. Alternatively email [email protected] or call 01833 908 087.
