Snake’s alive! Romeo proves star attraction

Romeo the 12-year-old corn snake was not a favourite with everyone.

PUPILS at Cotherstone School got up close and personal with a range of unusual creatures as part of a pre-school project about mini-beasts

Children were introduced to Bellatrix, the curly-haired tarantula, along with Brian the scorpion when Rob Hunt and Hannah Richards, from Zoolab, paid a visit.

While youngsters were only able to look at these two fearsome creatures, they enjoyed having the opportunity to handle some of the other guests, including Matilda, a Madagascan hissing cockroach, giant millipedes Fred and Millie, and Shelly a giant African snail, when they learned more about various mini-beasts.

The star of the show though was Romeo, a 12-year-old corn snake,

Teaching assistant Carolyn Murtagh, said: “The pre-school class are exploring a mini-beast project and the visit was part of that, but as we share activities it made sense that year one and two children enjoyed it too.”
