FORMER seafarers gathered in Barnard Castle’s Garden of Remembrance to mark Merchant Navy Day.

The short ceremony was led by Revd Canon Alec Harding, who read a message from the Earl of Wessex to mark the occasion, and featured Ian Kirkbride recounting the Ode of Remembrance and Andrew Nicholson playing the Last Post.

Wreaths were laid by Cllr Fiona Turnbull on behalf of Barnard Castle Town Council and Dave Moore on behalf of the Vindicatrix Association.
