A 15-YEAR-OLD pop singer from Barnard Castle has used her school experience as inspiration for her latest single.
Jeshika Jaynes’s single You was released on various platforms at the beginning of the month.
The youngster has been singing since the age of four and recorded her first single aged 12. She has also appeared on stage in musicals in the North East.
She said: “I use to attend the Pauline Quirk Academy, in Darlington, and I fell in love with the stage.
“I would audition for a few West End plays, but I was too tall for a child performer – that is why I went into
singing.
“I played Cinderella at the Majestic in Darlington in 2016. I was also nominated for best actor for the short film festival in the north.”
The solo singer and pianist writes all of her own songs while her London producer helps her with the music.
Of her latest release, she said: “This song is about life in my school and how kids treat me because I am different. Yes, I struggle with school life and I don’t want to be like the rest of them, pulling others down and making others’ life a misery.”
The singer receives vocal coaching from former Pop Idol finalist Zoe Birkett, which, she says, has improved her range and boosted her confidence. Despite the release of her new single, the young artist said the past few months had been tough.
She added: “Coronavirus has had a big impact on me being unable to perform – it feels like it has been 999 years since I stepped on a stage, but there is light at the end of the tunnel as I am performing again at Think Tank Newcastle in May next year. Tickets are available from North East Gigs.”
