Scarecrow trail helps entertain kids

SEAT TREAT: A traditional scarecrow

A TRAIL of pumpkins, ghoulish ghosts and wicked witch scarecrows created a spooky atmosphere in a dale village as part of Halloween celebrations.
A Halloween inspired scarecrow trail in Stainton saw residents come together to ensure youngsters in the village could still enjoy an evening trick or treating.
In normal years events have been held in the village hall, but due to coronavirus restrictions this wasn’t possible so residents put together an impromptu spooky scarecrow trail.
Stainton resident Jane Teasdale said: “It was suggested that we do something as we’d normally have had something on at the village hall.
“With Covid we haven’t been able to.
“A few of us put up decorations out and put sweet treats outside so the children could still go out with parents, all safely distanced.
“The restrictions seem to have brought out the community spirit. It is difficult to do but has really brought us together.”
