A FAMILIAR face will be helping to put families at the forefront of a Barnard Castle community centre.
Sarah Gent is taking on the role of family activity co-ordinator at the TCR Hub, in Shaw Bank, and leaving her post as programming and marketing manager at The Witham.
Her job has been created thanks to a successful bid to the National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund and is initially for three years.
Ms Gent said the aim of her new role was to bring people together to celebrate the community in a creative way and give families access to more activities and events.
She said this would be achieved by working with partners, schools and other community groups along with building on a number of existing activities, such as The Hub’s winter festival and the Harambee Pasadia Afro Fusion Festival, which has been staged at the venue for the past three years.
“I am really excited to come and work here,” she said.
“During lockdown, it has been inspirational to see what has been achieved for the community with the amazing team of volunteers.
“Part of my role will be to make families aware of what is going on here and bring more families to The Hub to offer them and the community more.”
Ms Gent said her time at The Witham had given her a “fantastic platform” of experience and she expects to work with the arts centre during her time as family activity co-ordinator.
Rachel Tweddle, chief executive of The Hub, said: “It is a very exciting time as we invest further in working with local families and Sarah is going to be an amazing asset to the charity to drive the new project forward.”
