STAINDROP residents came out in droves on Saturday, picnicking on the village green as part of celebrations to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee.
A volunteer committee organised a range of entertainment including traditional games such as hook-a-duck, Connect Four and a coconut shy for young and old to enjoy for free.
Teesdale Pipes and Drums provided musical entertainment and there were even specially-made seaside style cutouts depicting the queen, Prince Charles, a beefeater and corgi.
Sharren Hoskins, who helped to organise the event, said: “It’s been a great day and especially lovely that so many people have come along. We put on old fashioned style games for everyone to enjoy and the children have loved the bouncy castles.
“The best thing, which we couldn’t organise, was the sunshine and that’s just been great.”
