RELOCATING a new village noticeboard just a few yards from its previous spot has resulted in a big increase in the number of people stopping to keep abreast of local affairs.
Whorlton and Westwick Parish Council commissioned the new board to commemorate the late Queen’s platinum jubilee.
It was placed just five yards from the previous noticeboard – but crucially it now sits on the main footpath across from Whorlton green.
Cllr George Stastny, parish council chairman, said: “Previously, people had to go on the grass to see it and they just did not bother.
“The new noticeboard is the parish council’s contribution to the Queen’s jubilee. Half the board is for the parish council and half is for use by the public.”
The noticeboard is also close to a traditional red public phone box which has been converted into a public library, which has also proved popular with residents.
“This corner of the village has been sorted out. The telephone box library is well used – in fact we need more books,” said Cllr Stastny.
