PUPILS from a dale primary school have picked their carnival queen.

Daisy Hall was selected by her classmates at Bowes Hutchinson’s Primary School who also then decided on the full entourage for Bowes Carnival next month.

They are: retiring carnival queen, Elisabeth Webb; herald, Aidan Marmont; queen’s attendants, Ellie Perkins and Lucy Whittle; flower girls, Jessica Askew and Daisy Ferguson; crown bearer, Luke Williams; pages, Oscar Addison and Alfie Seymour.

Other plans for the carnival weekend are now being finalised. The theme for the carnival fancy dress is “around the world” .

The action-packed weekend kicks off with a fun family football event for adults and young people over nine. This will take place on Friday, June 7, on the school field.

Players should arrive at 5.45pm for a 6pm kick off. All players need to wear shin pads.

On Saturday, June 8, the carnival fancy dress parade will be led by the Teesside-based Rhythm Train samba band. After the judging, there will be more fun on the school field including bouncy castles, side stalls, games, music from Barnard Castle Band, and family entertainment.

On Saturday, in the village hall from 6.30pm to 8.30pm, there will be a family games night with a disco.

The annual family sports, including the popular welly wanging contest, will take place on the afternoon of Sunday, June 9.

The afternoon will conclude with the draw of the annual carnival raffle.

Further timings and information will be available nearer the time from committee members. The committee is making a plea for volunteers who can help out on the Saturday or Sunday.
