Public meeting on crime in upper Teesdale

A meeting will be held in Teesdale

NEW ideas to fight crime in the upper dale are to be explored during a meeting between residents and police.

The meeting at Utass (Upper Teesdale Agricultural Support Services) offices in Middleton-in-Teesdale on February 28, follows a spate of burglaries on farms and properties last autumn.

Charlotte Fletcher, from Utass, said: “It is a follow up to the session which took place last September. It was organised following the rise in thefts from farms and residents in and around the dale.

“It will be another opportunity for residents to raise further concerns and also find out what has been done since the last meeting.”

Among the ideas suggested at that meeting was the installation of CCTV cameras along some routes in upper Teesdale. It was also confirmed that six people from Darlington had been arrested in connection with a number of thefts and burglaries.

The arrests were made when police reacted to a report of suspicious activity in Baldersdale. The meeting starts at 7pm and a hot supper will be provided,
