North Star Housing has completed a £1.6m project to make energy efficiencies and roof replacements of its properties across Teesdale.
Between November 2024 and November 2025, improvements were delivered to more than 585 homes.
This included 97 roof replacements, the removal of 30 redundant chimney stacks, new render for 42 properties, and energy efficiency upgrades such as loft and cavity wall insulation in 72 homes.
Work was carried out across properties in Gainford, Evenwood, Woodland and Cotherstone, as well as two homes in Middlesbrough and one in Thornaby.
The programme was driven primarily by the need for roof replacements, with insulation improvements delivered alongside these works to maximise long-term value and minimise disruption for customers.
While most homes already achieved an EPC C rating, targeted insulation upgrades were carried out where needed to improve comfort and energy performance.
A strong partnership between North Star’s Asset Management team, including Asset Management Surveyor Nicola Dixon, and contractors ensured works were completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
The social housing group said feedback from customers has been overwhelmingly positive, praising professionalism, communication and respect throughout the programme.
Paula Aungiers, asset and sustainability manager at North Star Housing Group, said: “This programme has delivered lasting improvements to customers’ homes, improving comfort, energy efficiency and appearance.
“It’s a clear example of our commitment to investing in sustainable, energy-efficient homes while ensuring that customers feel supported and valued throughout the process.”
Customer feedback reflects the high-quality experience delivered.
One customer said: “We have had no problems with the workers, all were very pleasant. We are very satisfied: a great job, well done to all.”
