A SPECIAL assembly at Green Lane Primary School celebrated the graduation of early years pupils as well as students who took part in an anti-dog fouling campaign competition.

The children, along with other pupils from Montalbo Primary, have been collaborating with Barnard Castle Town Council to tackle the problem of people not cleaning up after their dogs.

As part of the campaign, children were invited to take part in competitions to come up with slogans as well as poster designs.

Pupils Ryan, Sam, Nina and Connie earned highly commended for their entries and were each awarded a furry puppy soft toy as a prize.

Several other pupils won free tickets to the town’s mini-golf course for their excellent entries into the competition

Headteacher Rob Goffee said: “They absolutely loved it (taking part in the poster competition). The children are very keen on having a tidy town. They love dogs but they also recognise people need to be more responsible.”
