Pop into the village pub for a pint and a flu jab

VACCINE: Pharmacy manager Pete Horrocks gives pub manager Dan Richards a flu jab at The Edge Hotel

IN what is possibly a first for the dale, a pop-up flu vaccination clinic was set up in a village pub last month.

The unusual event was held at The Edge Hotel, in Woodland, late last month and was organised by village resident and pharmacy manager Pete Horrocks. The idea came about while he was visiting his local and chatting to pub manager Dan Richards.

Mr Horrocks, who has been running Covid-19 clinics for Knights Pharmacy, in Bishop Auckland, said: “We are very lucky to have a pub in our local community, many villages have lost these over recent years. I was delighted to be invited by the new owners of The Edge Hotel to host a flu clinic in the community.

“My team at Knights Pharmacy have spent the last year focusing on the Covid vaccination programme. We are now turning our attention to Covid boosters and flu jabs – this is the first time we have come out to a community venue to offer flu. It has been a great experience vaccinating 40 people and chatting to them, everyone has been so appreciating of the local venue and convenience.”
