YOUNG Zetland Hunt Pony Club (ZHPC) members gathered at Barnard Castle School to take part in the Pony Club National Winter Triathlon qualifier.
Staged by the Zetland Hunt Pony Club and organised by Claire Hodgson, more than 170 competitors entered the event.
The Pony Club has announced that a new non-ridden membership is now available for anyone under the age of 25, allowing participation to events such as triathlons held throughout the year. As a result, this event welcomed many new faces to the sport, with athletes tackling running, swimming and target shooting for the first time in friendly competition.
The qualifier was sponsored by Barnard Castle School and used its 50-acre grounds and facilities.
Rosettes made by Jeanette Crompton were presented by Barnard Castle School’s second master Martin Pepper, former England and Harlequins rugby forward, in a presentation ceremony after the competition.
Zetland Hunt Pony Club members Millie Hodgson, in minimus girls, and Eleanor Clulow, in open girls, qualified for the National Winter Triathlon championships which will be held at Stoke Mandeville Stadium, in March.
ZHPC wishes to thank Barnard Castle School for supporting and sponsoring the qualifier event, and a special thank you to the parents and the many volunteers who gave up their time to ensure the day ran very smoothly.
