YOUNGSTERS attending a music theatre summer school had plenty to sing about after organisers received £400 towards the cost of running the week-long event.
Some 28 children aged seven to 16 took part in the summer school, which was organised by Teesdale Operatic Youth Society (TOYS) at Barnard Castle Prep School.
The cash came courtesy of the neighbourhood funds of Barnard Castle county councillors Richard Bell, Ted Henderson, James Rowlandson and George Richardson, via Teesdale Action Partnership.
TOYS founder Dawn Trevor said the money would help cover the costs of musical director Richard Dawson.
Ms Trevor said the response to the summer school had been “huge” with youngsters learning medleys, solos, acting, mime, choreography and other stage skills.
“They have lapped it up and the feedback from parents has been really good. We will definitely do it again.”
Cllr Henderson said he and his colleagues were pleased to support the summer school.
“We were impressed by the group who treated us to a performance when we popped in to meet them.”
