FRIENDS of the Richardson Hospital volunteers raised more than £270 when they did a brisk trade at Barnard Castle’s weekly market.
Homemade jam, cheese scones, hand turned wooden items and knitted tea cosies were in demand. However, the charity’s new enamel pin badges, which were manufactured after a request from a Barnard Castle couple to purchase some to use as wedding gifts, proved to be a big hit with locals and visitors alike.
Iris Hillery, honorary secretary, said: “Our new pin badges were really popular and we have to thank Wendy and Graeme [Lodge] for the idea.
“It’s only down to them that we have them and they have proved to be a real hit.”
The Friends will be at this week’s Barnard Castle Farmers’ Market when they will be selling a range of homemade and craft items, though not food items.
