EGGLESTON’S Christmas lights display has been extended to cover the entire village green and includes a new tribute to the NHS and more baubles.

Additional electrical connections means that trees at the bottom of the green have also been lit up to create what is hailed as one of Teesdale’s most dramatic displays. David Hutchinson, who is on the committee, said about £1,000 had been invested into the extension this year. He added: “We have a new teepee display and we stripped back the totem and replaced it with new lights. You can tell the new ones because they are quite a bit brighter.”

Mr Hutchinson said Christmas lights organisers decided to start turning the lights on early this year and that one tree should be switched on at the start of the second coronavirus lockdown. An additional tree was turned on with each day of the lockdown.

All the cash for the extended display came from donations from people in the village.
