Montalbo school unleashes Shakespeare on the world

Year 4 pupils Liam and Archie and their teacher Dr Felicity Greenwell prepare to leave their book at Costa Coffee shop while their classmates look on

A DALE school has taken Shakespeare to the world.

As part of a week dedicated to the Bard, pupils at Montalbo Primary, in Barnard Castle, were asked to “release a book into the wild” . The scheme saw children put the book – a copy of Romeo and Juliet – in a water-proof cover and leave it in a public space. The idea is someone else picks it up, reads it and then leaves it in another public space for someone else to find.

The school has signed up to a scheme which sees the book assigned a code so it can be tracked. Teacher Dr Felicity Greenwell said: “We have taken it a step further by signing it up to bookcrossing.com so we can track it across the world.”
