A Mickleton teenager is hosting an evening of live music to raise cash for a charity close to his heart.
Last year Ethan Fletcher ran the Great North Run and raised £1,400 for a Multiple Sclerosis (MS) charity in honour of his girlfriend Allie Nicholls who suffers from the illness.
Today March 7, he will be gathering cash for the MS Society by hosting a gig by Making Plans at Mickleton Village Hall at 7pm.
The 17-year-old Queen Elizabeth College student said: “The Great North Run was for the MS Trust last year, so I decided to do it for the MS Society this year because the society has more of a focus on research into new medication, cures and the cause of MS.”
The initial symptoms started when Allie was 14, but it wasn’t immediately diagnosed.
She said: “I lost all feeling in my hands, I couldn’t feel anything at all. Suddenly, everyday tasks became overwhelming and difficult. The numbness lasted for eight months before I started to regain sensation.
“A couple years later, I developed double vision, Fortunately, it was after this that I was diagnosed.”
She was diagnosed with MS in March 2024.
Allie said: “The hardest part of my condition is how unpredictable it can be.
“I suffer from severe fatigue at times, numbness and pain in my body and periods of overwhelming emotion.
“Because MS is often invisible, the impact it has day to day isn’t always obvious to others, but it requires constant adjustment.
“Throughout my journey, the MS Society has been invaluable. The information and guidance they provide has helped both me and my loved ones understand my condition better.
“The MS Society makes a real difference to people living with MS and I am incredibly grateful for the support they offer.
“I hope by raising money for this charity, it can help bring knowledge and reassurance to more people wanting to learn about Multiple Sclerosis.”
During the night of 80s music, Making Plans will be supported by Tess and Ben.
