FELTING FUN: Suzanne Herbert

Barnard Castle WI

PRESIDENT Naila Laundy welcomed 23 members and two visitors to the meeting on November 25.

Members were encouraged to read the five new resolutions in the latest WI magazine which we will be voting on in the January meeting.

Final preparations were put in place for the December meeting which will be a Christmas meal at Capri restaurant, in Barnard Castle. Menu choices and drinks were pre-ordered and all members agreed that a secret Santa gift would add to the fun of the evening.

A donation has been given to one of the local guides who has been chosen to represent Girl Guiding in the North East at the European Jamboree in Gdansk next year. Heather will come and give a report on her trip when she returns.

Suzanne Herbert, our guest speaker, was then welcomed to the meeting.

This was to be a hands-on meeting as we were all going to make a Christmas tree decoration from felt.

Suzanne gave us all the instructions on how to complete our dove and set us on to our task.

Each bird was a different colour and buttons and stitching became the embellishment. Those of us who hadn’t picked up a needle for some time had to dust off our sewing skills and get creating. The finished decorations were fabulous and each one looked very different. Suzanne was thanked for a very enjoyable and productive evening.

Supper was served by Jannette and Rita and the raffle was drawn. The next time we shall meet in the Guide Hut will be January 27 when we shall be eyes down for a night of bingo.

Anyone interested in finding out more about the WI can contact Naila Laundy on 07999 957898 or Sheila Jones on 01325 733228.
