Meet procession fit for a Queen

A ROYAL OCCASION: The Court of TCR Hub pulled out all the stops for their costumes and were judged champions of this year's parade for their efforts TM pic

HUGE crowds turned out to welcome the return of the Barnard Castle Meet parade, which formed part of the Queen’s platinum jubilee weekend celebrations.

After months of planning – and a heavy shower 20 minutes before it set off – the colourful parade snaked its way from the GSK car park, along Montalbo Road and through the town.

Those taking part had gone to great lengths to ensure the parade was a spectacle of colour.

Judging had taken place before the start and the TCR Hub’s entry of a royal court took the championship trophy.

Large groups: 1, Montalbo School for Marvellous Montalbo’s Jubilee Jazz band; 2, St Mary’s School, for The Queen’s knickers.

Small groups: 1, Tom Howe and friends, for Not all superheroes wear capes; 2, Finlay family, for Alice in Wonderland.

With the parade over, activities then switched to the lower Demesnes for two days of live music, fun and games.

A variety of bands and musicians entertained, while for the younger one there were traditional games, courtesy of Teesdale Lions Club.

On the second day of the Meet, there was the chance to bag a bargain at a car boot sale, along with a fun pet show.

There were also children’s rides and a selection of food vendors.
